Cast Glass Shining Cuckoo (Pipiwharauroa) — Wall Sculpture by Luke Jacomb Studio
With its bright, fluting whistle and beautifully camouflaged plumage, the Pipiwharauroa is more often heard than seen. A summer migrant found throughout Aotearoa, it holds the unique distinction of being our only iridescent green bird. From forest and bush to farmland and suburban streets, the Pipiwharauroa is a prolific contributor to the country’s songbird chorus, quietly threading its call through the landscape.
This cast-glass Pipiwharauroa captures the essence of this elusive native, celebrating both its shimmer and subtlety. Displayed as a single sculptural feature or as part of a larger wall composition, it brings a lyrical, distinctly New Zealand presence into the home.
