Cast Glass Whitehead (Pōpokotea) — Wall Sculpture by Luke Jacomb Studio
Small in size but big in personality, the Pōpokotea is a lively North Island songbird known for its strong voice and social nature. Often found chattering in noisy groups of eight or more, it prefers the high canopy of tall native forest and dense bush. Once in serious decline in the late 19th century, the Pōpokotea has since recovered and is now abundant again across much of Te Ika-a-Māui.
This cast-glass Pōpokotea captures the bird’s compact form and alert stance, offering a sculptural nod to one of Aotearoa’s quiet conservation success stories. Displayed individually or within a flock of Jacomb birds, it brings a refined touch of New Zealand birdlife into the home.
