Cast Glass Silvereye (Tauhou) — Wall Sculpture by Luke Jacomb Studio

Although considered native to Aotearoa, the Tauhou is technically “self-introduced”, having arrived here in the early 1800s. Small, friendly and prolific, this much-loved songbird is easily recognised by the distinctive white ring around its eyes. Common in gardens and urban parks as well as dense forest and bush, the Tauhou is a familiar and welcome presence across much of the country.

This cast-glass Tauhou captures the bird’s compact form and characteristic alertness, offering a refined sculptural tribute to one of New Zealand’s everyday natives. Displayed on its own or as part of a Jacomb bird arrangement, it brings a subtle touch of nature and nostalgia into any interior.
