Coventry Portals by Janet Fox
Janet Fox
Oil & Cold Wax
520mm W × 680mm H
Coventry Portals draws on memory, history, and the quiet resilience of place. Inspired by the cathedral ruins in Coventry, England — bombed during the Second World War — the work reflects both loss and enduring presence.
Layered in cold wax, oil and tissue, the surface carries a sense of time worn into it — fragments, textures and shadows emerging and receding like echoes of the past. Architectural forms suggest arches and thresholds, portals that speak to passage, reflection and rebuilding.
There is a stillness within the work — a reverence for what once stood, and a quiet acknowledgement of what remains.
Janet Fox is a mixed media artist known for her love of texture and her use of unusual, raw materials. Tears, rips, splashes and imperfections are embraced as part of the story, with Janet often describing her work as “perfectly imperfect.” Found materials frequently provide the starting point for her practice, becoming integral elements within her mixed media collage pieces.
