Within Silence is an intimate meditation on belonging — a gentle search for the place where we feel most anchored. Inspired by the idea of refuge, the work reflects those rare landscapes that offer stillness, solace, and the space to simply be.

Davie explores the universal human longing for sanctuary — somewhere we instinctively recognise as safe and serene. Often these places live within us long before we encounter them, shaped by memory, imagination, and emotional need. When we finally arrive, the experience feels less like discovery and more like a quiet remembering.

Layered with atmosphere and restraint, Within Silence invites the viewer to pause, breathe, and settle into its calm presence — a subtle reminder of the restorative power of both landscape and introspection.

Emma’s process is as important as the finished work. Marks are made, erased, reworked, and left partially revealed, with traces of experimentation becoming integral to the composition. These layered surfaces create depth and complexity, encouraging multiple points of entry and a slow engagement with texture, colour, and form.
