Janna Van Hasselt — Duct 2026
Glazed porcelain and acrylic
80mm x 160mm x 50mm
Duct pushes Janna van Hasselt’s exploration of ceramics beyond the traditional vessel, transforming porcelain into a dynamic wall-based sculpture that feels almost drawn in space.
Lengths of extruded porcelain twist, loop and intertwine in a wonderfully unruly tangle. A predominantly black and white palette emphasises each curling form, while unexpected flashes of colour punctuate the work and a neon backing creates a soft pink glow against the wall.
Inspired by the everyday rhythms and beautiful disorder of family life — unravelled braids, precarious piles, collapsing structures and the constant act of holding everything together — Janna embraces irregularity rather than perfection.
Sculptural and expressive, Duct shifts as you move around it, its looping forms projecting from the wall to create changing shadows, depth and movement. It is playful yet considered — a work that challenges what porcelain can be and where ceramics belong.
