Mineral Shift draws inspiration from the rich, metallic character of bronzite — an iron-bearing variety of enstatite known for its deep, earthy tones and shimmering bronze-like lustre. Though it contains no actual metal, bronzite has long been admired for its mineral sheen, shifting between brown, charcoal and grey-black as light moves across its surface. In classical antiquity, a similarly dark, lustrous alloy — hepatizon, or black Corinthian bronze — was prized for its patinated depth created through a careful blend of copper, gold, and silver.
Lil. M channels the essence of these ancient materials into a contemporary abstract work, using acrylic pigments and a glossy resin finish to echo the mineral’s subtle metallic play. Swirls of bronze, iron-rich browns, and moody dark undertones flow together in a dynamic, layered composition that feels both geological and fluid — a surface in motion, suspended between stone and liquid metal.
