Where You Are forms part of Emma Davie’s ongoing exploration of time, memory, and the quiet poetry of movement through landscape. Inspired by journeys to see loved ones, the work draws on fleeting glimpses through windows, unhurried walks, and imagined terrains — layered impressions that feel both deeply personal and universally familiar.

Rather than depicting a specific location, Davie paints of the land itself — an intuitive response to nature shaped by travel, reflection, and emotional connection. A conscious slowing in both life and practice has allowed the artist to observe more deeply, translating memories and feelings into expressive, atmospheric form.

The result is a piece that gently invites the viewer inward — perhaps recalling a place once known, a moment once felt, or simply offering a visual pause. Where You Are is less about geography and more about presence: a reminder of how landscape lives within us. 

Emma’s process is as important as the finished work. Marks are made, erased, reworked, and left partially revealed, with traces of experimentation becoming integral to the composition. These layered surfaces create depth and complexity, encouraging multiple points of entry and a slow engagement with texture, colour, and form.
